The STi Version 6 STi Sports Wagon was the last of the breed and best of all the now modern classic status 5 door Imprezas. In terms of equivalent cars of the same era, the STi 6 had no direct competitors, except perhaps in some marginal capacity as the first Audi Avant RS2's and the later S4 Avant or RS4, which are nowadays firmly in the modern classic-investable car category.
These STi Sports wagons were of the best specification of all & were built & supplied exclusively to the Japanese domestic market. The Japanese know a good car & we have seen values of these rise steadily, especially over the last couple of years as modern replacements have become less exciting with more electronics. Naturally as domestic demand for high quality well preserved examples outstrips supply, these have strengthened in price in Japan by over 100% over the last 2 years (All classic STi Imprezas have, the later & more exclusive, the higher their values are climbing, with the 22B already at unreachable stratospheric values).
The condition of this particular example is the best STi 6 we can remember having in stock over the last 3 years or so, so we breathed deeply and paid a high price for this rare car when it came up, knowing it could be the last one we can buy in this condition. We're well aware of market conditions and that examples like these will continue to rise in value over the next couple of years (Just see what other rally fugitives such as Delta Integrales have done). Condition of this example is still much like new and it should last a very long time provided it continues to be as well looked after as it has been all these years.
The engines on these models are STi Blue-printed units with stronger internals incl. better camshafts, valve springs and larger turbo combined with an 8,000 rpm rev limit (Normal WRX's are 7,000) packing 280+ bhp as standard. Further mechanical improvements from Subaru Technica International include a carbon fibre front strut brace, uprated intercooler, uprated suspension, 4 piston brakes at front with 2 piston at rear, etc.
The STi 6 is also distinguishable by it's updated vented bonnet, crystal headlights (Only on this model, STi 5's had conventional headlights), light green tint on windows (Privacy glass on the rear), updated rear spoiler with integrated central brake light and the red and white rear lights in addition to crystal type headlights and a fresher design of front bumper & splitter. The Sti 6 interior was also of a brighter design than previous versions, with "STi" embossed front seats & white dials with a digital odometer. The air-conditioning controls were also updated and a driver's SRS airbag included with the Momo leather steering wheel. This particular example is also equipped with original option bumper-recessed driving lights.
For the sports driver who wants reliable high capacity load carrying capability without the weight penalty, outstanding 4WD road holding, STi performance and reliability - this is the wagon to own. Better dynamically than the later heavier and more watered down bug eye WRX & STi wagons, in terms of performance & fun - you'll be hard pressed to find better. Classic Impreza STi performance - with all the practicality of a normal 5 door wagon. These made & continue to make other manufacturer's modern sports estate offerings look positively boring & performance is bland by comparison!
Exhaust & ICE modifications: This car's remained standard mechanically aside from the addition of a Fujitsubo Legalis R stainless sports exhaust.

Exterior & Interior Condition: The bodywork is completely rust free & there's no underside corrosion at all to the chassis, nor in the engine bay. This is hardly of the usual rough condition UK cars or imports that came into the UK several years ago are typically found in. Our full array of pictures will speak for themselves to show the outstanding condition of this Impreza STi 6 Sports Wagon. It's essentially a time-warp vehicle that's been stored indoors much of its life.
There's some very small touch up paint areas applied by the previous (one) owner on the side skirts (Where the driver's foot would usually rub getting in & out). These do not require attention, they're simply described to provide a full report of condition (Pictures of each are also shown). If we didn't point these tiny faults out out here - most people probably wouldn't even notice them on inspection.
We also noted 3 small pin dents on the driver's rear door and also 2 on the driver's door. These have already been repaired by a specialist as part of our detailing work in Japan, but mentioned so the new owner is aware of the care we have taken with this car.
The rear "WRX STi" decal was carefully removed by the previous owner, so as an option we obtained a new one from Subaru which will come with the car, or this can be fitted by ourselves before completion if preferred or just left as is, for discretion.
Interior is also in excellent condition without any significant wear. Note this has been a non-smoker's car since new. It's very rare to find an example anywhere near this good nowadays as any serious enthusiast searching for one of these will know.
Test Drive: Mechanically it's also in good condition. Strong power with good response, a nice quiet engine with no noisy valve gear or signs of a hard pushed engine. We test drove this car after warming up - which revealed a very tight feeling car. There are no faults to report at all. This car's been regularly serviced and oil was recently changed (Not due for approx. 1,500km yet, if keeping to Japanese Subaru's 5,000km oil change schedules).
